3/9/04 Well I did it! Here are the pictures of the boat I kept saying I was going to post. Only took me about a year.
2/28/03 If I can get some time this weekend I'll update this picture with a new one of my thirty two year old boat with it's forty three year old motors. My wife thinks I'm just a big kid building an oversize model. You know, she may be right!
The boat I'm working on is a 1971 Reinell Glass 18 1/2 ft with twin 40 hp Johnson's. I have both engines running like a top.<- Update! This statement was so far off you would'nt believe it. They were running on one cylinder each. Found out why and fixed the problem. Tomorrow (10/11/02) is the big test. Wish me luck!
10/14/02 : The motors were making horsepower so well that the port motor riped the vulcanized rubber out of the center of the old prop. The other motor busted it's mount bracket and riped itself right off the boat. Back to repair work again!
2/28/03 After rebuilding the transom and doing some more clean up on the motors we took her to Lake Cachuma this last weekend. With a little adjustments on the high speed carburator jets while we were running across the lake it all came together! She took off and got up on plain for the first time. We reached speeds of 35 mph and we had about a thousand pounds of people and gear in the boat. Those two 40 horse motors sounded like a pair of mad bumble bees. It was great!
By the way, we did stop long enough to catch a three pound trout. What fun !!!!
